If you are one of the millions of football fans who wondered what you were going to do on Valentines Day when faced with the decision of, big game versus the missus, then Puma had decided that this was the solution. Personally, I know that P.O.W. would have cut my nuts off if this is what I did (although I wasn’t in the UK with her at all this year), none the less a great viral and great idea! So, if you don’t already know, I am lovin’ Joy’s work right now and have been for at least 6 months. Whatever this guy touches is GOLD! I caught up with him at Trouble Vision (good rave!) and heard this on the night. One of my heroes of electronic music, Four Tet, who also recently collaborated with Burial (here), has now teamed up with Joy and let him loose on his new single: Love Cry. Have a listen and see what you think, in my opinion it is another exmple of why this young buck is gonna be flying the flag for the UK for a very long time. Long may it continue.

EASY…
It’s Monday morning, and YES, you read correctly, WU-TANG clan meets dubstep. There is a lot of hype about this album so I felt that I should write something about it. I’ve had a couple of listens to this and am still undecided. There are a couple of tracks that stand out, the Scuba mix of ‘Street Corners’ being one, but the majority feels like Dubstep circa 2005/2006 (this isn’t a bad thing of sorts, it’s just the sound has evolved so far beyond that now).
In my opinion it is still worth listening to. Regardless of taste, in the very least, it shows how the two genres (Hip-Hop and Dubstep) can cross over and well. There are other examples of this of course, Dabrye – Air (feat. MF DOOM) Kode 9 remix, and Starkey’s take on street bass definitely hints at some of the more left field/underground Hip-Hop that has been coming out of US in the last five or so years.

So, as the year comes to end, and I am getting closer to leaving the UK for five weeks, I have decided to break down the things I love about South London. I am born and bread South East and the world is finally starting to take notice. ‘East has happened, South is happening…’, that’s the word on the street. Even East London heads are whispering it. Here are 10 things I love about South London that I think are worth shouting about. Over the next four weeks I shall deliver exactly what I think is great about in ten parts. First up, a bit of music, of course.
1: THE XX
There is so much to say about this band but I am going to leave it at this… they are astonishing. I have waxed lyrical about these guys for a while after being introduced to them by a friend of mine called James. Since then I have had the album on repeat. Only three other albums have caught my attention like this one in the last couple of years, The Phantom Band – Checkmate Savage, Mystery Jets – Twenty One and The Foals – Antidotes.
