EASY, It’s been a while since I put out a mix and the sunshine over the last couple of weeks has really inspired me, so here’s my summer mix! I have been playing a few of these of these tunes for a while and there some other which I am just particularly feeling right now, kick back and enjoy! The last one being a personal favourite, and classic!!!!! Tracklist is below…
PEACE&OUZO
TRACKLIST
1: TONYA RENEE: About You (Karizma Boucha Remix)
2: TRACKHEADZ FEAT ZAKI: feel (Vocal Mix)
3: JOY ORBISON: The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow (Original Mix)
So, if you don’t already know, I am lovin’ Joy’s work right now and have been for at least 6 months. Whatever this guy touches is GOLD! I caught up with him at Trouble Vision (good rave!) and heard this on the night. One of my heroes of electronic music, Four Tet, who also recently collaborated with Burial (here), has now teamed up with Joy and let him loose on his new single: Love Cry. Have a listen and see what you think, in my opinion it is another exmple of why this young buck is gonna be flying the flag for the UK for a very long time. Long may it continue.
Here it is, the live set from GET SOME 001. Don’t watch the end as myself and SSG had some technical issues. BIG UP!

I am happy and proud to present the launch of a new, and in my opinion, very exciting record label, DARK ARX. The label is named after its founder and producer/muso DARK ARX who I have known for a very long time. The first release is by a brand new artist called Binary Sequence. His story is very interesting as, if my information is correct, he is classically trained and had never attempted to make any form of electronic before he started making this e.p. Let me tell you, this is a damn fine first attempt, electronic music at its finest, fo sho!
Expect the first release to drop around the end of October, early November. You can also catch DARK ARX debuting at GET SOME on 17th October: GET SOME. Check out DKX001 – Below The Ice here: http://www.darkarx.com/
Also, have a listen below. Congratulations DARK ARX, I can’t wait for the next release.
I first heard this track on the Mary Anne Hobbs Radio One show awhile back and it has stuck with me ever since! She has been smashing this along with a lot of other Wonky in the last few months, but this is one of the standout tracks for me. I couldn’t find a full version on SoundCloud (although I have it), so you’ll have to make do with this mash up. Enjoy.
I was chattin’ with my main boy WHISKEY and he reminded me of this tune, an ABSOLUTE BANGER, ‘HUDSON MOHAWKE – OOOPS!’. It is so big, I just had to share… click on the image below to have a listen.
I was having a chat about music with a friend of mine called James (Darkstar) this morning, bouncing ideas around and getting excited about some new music. We started talking about Hot Flush, a Berlin based record label owned and run by Londoner, Scuba, who’s recent releases have been very solid and who are about to put out the new Joy Orbison EP. Then out of no where, James sent me a link to The XX. I missed these guys at Field Day, which is a real shame in hindsight, as I was listening to Four Tet get crazy with an MPC and two laptops (my favourite kind of live).
I really like these guys, they’ve got a very dark, cracked out sound. They remind me of very early 80′s British rock with a twist of modern vocals and melodies, which is very reminiscent of the Kills actually. There is a hypnotic balance between the male and female vocals, nice harmonies and an all in all lazy sound. I LOVE IT. Check it out blow, click on the image to listen.
A beautiful rework of an already amazing piece of music. Adem, a British singer/songwriter, began recording in his teens as the bass player for the popular post-rock trio Fridge, recording four full-length records. In 2003 he was snapped up by Domino, home to a diverse group of artists including Four Tet, The Kills and Pavement. He released his debut (Homesongs) in 2004, followed by Love and Other Planets in 2006 and a collection of acoustic covers called Takes in 2008.
‘To Cure A Weakling Child / Boy/Girl Song’, Comes form the album ‘Takes’ and is a cover the Aphex Twin originals (merging two Aphex tracks together) to produce his own electronic folk masterpiece. This track has been a real favourite of mine in the last twelve months and I highly recommend the album too. Have a listen below, ENJOY!
