EASY! Another little gem sent to me by my friend Mr Le Fou, these videos show some really nicely executed prejetion work. I posted a video in August last year (http://www.not-ready.co.uk/blog/?p=1365) on a similar tip but these videos work on a smaller, more usable scale. Check them out…

I have been a massive fan of Shane Meadows for a long time and was really excited to hear that his new film was going to be featured in the Warp 20 box set (thanks cubalicious x), which I have on pre order soon to arrive. My favourite of Meadows’ films has to be Dead mans shoes. If you haven’t seen this then I recommend that you run out and buy yourself a copy as it is one of the best British films of this decades, in my opinion of course. Here is a clip of it:
I have read lots about Le Donk and have tried to tried to resist watching the trailer until now, but the temptation was too much. It is in the styleI have come to expect of Shane Meadows, very dark, beautifully shot, explicitally depicting the reality of British culture. It looks like a winner. So check it out and decide for yourself.

Field Day was a total disaster, poor organisation, rain and a fairly average line up. The one saving grace was FOUR TET. A few people I know said that he was slightly self indulgent, which I can understand if you are unfamiliar with his music, but I thought he was pretty decent. He went off a bit on a bit of a tangent veering towards his new Techno inspired sound, but that wasn’t a problem for me. I for one am excited to hear where his new sound is going after listening to years of evolution. Have a listen here to a track from his last EP, Ribbons, below. The Ringer EP is fairly old now and I cannot wait to hear his next release, whenever that is going to drop!?!?!?!?!?
Anyway, here is a video of the gig that I took and some pics I thought you might like to see of the show.

I found this site whilst looking through some bits and pieces online and really like the concept. It’s a very simple idea executed very well. It is for the Italian market but could easily have been rolled out in other countries because of it’s simplicity. Anyway, I think this is ace, a more fun way of showing off a new range of products.

As an ex pro triathlete (believe it or not), I used to have a mad passion for cycling. I was very competitive and still have all of my gear, including four or five very nice road bikes. The whole ‘fixed gear’ craze that is happening, or has been happening for the two/three years, really baffles me as I used to race those things on a track (where they belong), but has also really made me take an interested in cycling proper again. This year in particular, the return of Lance Armstrong to the professional circuit, including The Tour De France, has made pay way more attention. I have ridden on some of the mountains the tour passes through in the Alps of Italy, it was pretty tough.
So then I stumbled across this… Stages 2009. It is a collaboration between LIVESTRONG, Nike, and a group of artists who came up with the idea of customising Trek bikes that Lance would ride in the tour. The artists involved were KAWS, Kenny Scharf, Shepard Fairey, Marc Newson, Yoshitomo Nara and Damien Hirst. Check out the full story here: http://www.stages09.com/stages/index.html.
It is great to see that a truly amazing sport is finally being taken seriously and that it is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Oh, and it’s for a good cause too!
Here are some pics I have found.

An old friend of mine, Jonny Mourgue works at Flynn and I haven’t checked them out for a while. So whilst browsing on their website I realised that they had had a nice overhaul on the design front. I like it a lot and I think that you might too. Check them out here: FLYNN PRODUCTIONS
I am huge fan of Theo van Doesburg and the De Stijl era and this typeface draws direct inspiration from that, not only in the style of typeface but clearly from the name also. The type van Doesburg designed for the Aubette Café, De Stijl Magazine, etc. was used as a starting point and then expanded upon. While this typeface was inspired by historical references, it also has the ability to invoke a contemporary feel under the right conditions. Distill will work hard whether you are designing a neo-constructivist poster or a futuristic website. Distill is a family of 12 fonts: 4 weights, each containing condensed, regular, and expanded widths. It also features several alternate characters.

A great track by The Prodigy with a sample that takes me way back. This is the first time in a VERY long time that I have seen a music video which has made me sit up and and take note! It was produced by a company called Academy Films and really is amazing! Great concept, check the video out below by clicking on the image…

NICE! Thanks for this one Steezy.

OK, OK, I have to give props as I truly experienced something great last night. I have been dipping in and out of Deviation for a couple of years now and have been heavily critical of the lackluster crowd, seemingly unable to appreciate what Benji and Jude deliver musically month in month out. It has always been a deterrent when it comes to making the effort to reach on a Wednesday evening (especially in those dark, cold winter months). Last night was different though.
An early arrival, accompanied by some friends (big up Joshua Black, The Dancer and Dark Arkx) and the ever present Miss Scott (x), gave myself a chance to ease into the music and feel the vibe grow organically. For those of you who know me, you would know that I was seriously up for this, I have been banging on about Martyn for well over a year now and still had not managed to see this man work his magic on the decks. Whatever happened I was determined to enjoy the evening.

Around 9:45 I realised I definitely would. Jude come over to say hi and informed me that Samiyam and Flying Lotus would be passing through with the possibility of the two of them dropping some beats themselves. Game on. Could this get much better? Enter the world of the unknown…

Samiyam destroyed the dance. 8 bit, crunked out, big bass, white noise, ‘What d’you call it?’, I don’t have a clue. That really set the tone. Only the intensity of The Bug could have rivaled the performance given by this man. And I mean performance. It was so nice to see a DJ who was as enthusiastic about what he was playing as the crowd were, he bounced to every bass bomb that was dropped, shouted every lyric and fed the crowd with amazing energy. He came, he saw, he conquered. Props.

Benji took th reigns before the Martyn came on at 12pm. I think the hour and a half that followed was one of the finest DJ sets I have EVER experienced. A montage of Acid-House, Deep House, Tech-House, Techno, DubStep, Garage, 2-Step blended perfectly with a touch of rave absolutely blew me away. For everyone that was there mark my words, you witnessed the future. This is what I have been banging on about for years and have been tirelessly searching for, I have finally found it.
Martyn dropped some Burial and Roy Davis Jr. for the heads and Harddrive – Deep Inside for nostalgia. The man is a true genius. This was Jude’s reaction to Archangel…

This was hands down the best vibe, line up, crowd I have experienced at Deviation and the first of many to come (I hope). If they could recreate this atmosphere and quality of set more often Deviation would by far and away be the best club night in London. Last night was one I will always remember. Benji, Samiyam, Martyn, Jude… I thank you.
