THE LONGEST BENCH

Posted by Leigh

Spotted this on Dezeen, how bloody cool is it? AMAZING if you ask me. I have been to Little Hampton before to check out the East Beach Cafe, designed by Thomas Heatherwick, but with the addition of this little number I might well have to go back! Hats off to the local council for commissioning these pieces of great design, it makes it a lot easier to choose the British seaside over a long weekend in Europe when you have this kind of brilliance on your doorstep! Nice work.

EASY! Another little gem sent to me by my friend Mr Le Fou, these videos show some really nicely executed prejetion work. I posted a video in August last year (http://www.not-ready.co.uk/blog/?p=1365) on a similar tip but these videos work on a smaller, more usable scale. Check them out…

MEAT PACKING DISTRICT, BROWN BARS, RIVER OF ICE…

More Copenhagen madness, go on, have a look… The lamp shades are designed by the ultra talented Olafur Eliasson (check him out here: (http://www.olafureliasson.net) who most people will remember form THE WEATHER PROJECT at the Tate Modern in 2003. They were in a bar in the meat packing district called Karriere Bar, which if you are ever in Copenhagen I seriously recommend you check out. More to come soon.

P.S. a brown bar is a local bar that is open pretty much 24 hours a day where people can still smoke inside. I think if the bar is under 40 meters square the smoking ban doesn’t apply…

A friend I used to work with posted this on Twitter, and it is bloody amazing! It was at a festival and is projected on to the side of a huge stately home. Check it out.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT – NAMALEE & WAH NAIL BAR

Picture 11

Friday after work I jumped on the boat from Gotham City (Canary Wharf) straight after work and headed into Shoreditch to meet the missus. The Princess of Wales was spinning some records at the WAH nail bar launch and I was going to show some support. As per with the lady, we slightly sidetracked on the way, bumping into people we know and ending up at the launch party Reebok were putting on for Namalee, who has recently designed a new shoe based on wonder woman’s sandals. I was expecting a good show seeing as the one and only Jenny Scott had done something very similar a couple of years back with CLAW MONEY and  NIKE, which was ace, but this really was a disappointment. Firstly I wasn’t overly impressed with the shoes and secondly they could have done more with the installation. But hey, I don’t really care anyway. So, after a brief stop to pick up a friend we were off to Kingsland Road…

I wasn’t sure what to expect of the WAH nails launch party and on arrival was even more confused. It was quiet early doors, with the usual East heads turning up in drips and drabs whilst the ladies were getting their nails done and the music was warming up. Unfortunately, that was the recipe for rest of the evening. The shop got busier, the music got louder adn we all went home. A new chapter in the WAH story began. So here are some pics, enjoy.

LANCE ARMSTRONG – STAGES 2009

lance-marquee

As an ex pro triathlete (believe it or not), I used to have a mad passion for cycling. I was very competitive and still have all of my gear, including four or five very nice road bikes. The whole ‘fixed gear’ craze that is happening, or has been happening for the two/three years, really baffles me as I used to race those things on a track (where they belong), but has also really made me take an interested in cycling proper again. This year in particular, the return of Lance Armstrong to the professional circuit, including The Tour De France, has made pay way more attention. I have ridden on some of the mountains the tour passes through in the Alps of Italy, it was pretty tough.

So then I stumbled across this… Stages 2009. It is a collaboration between LIVESTRONG, Nike, and a group of artists who came up with the idea of customising Trek bikes that Lance would ride in the tour. The artists involved were KAWS, Kenny Scharf, Shepard Fairey, Marc Newson, Yoshitomo Nara and Damien Hirst. Check out the full story here: http://www.stages09.com/stages/index.html.

It is great to see that a truly amazing sport is finally being taken seriously and that it is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Oh, and it’s for a good cause too!

Here are some pics I have found.
