JOY ORBISON REMIXES FOUR TET

Posted by Leigh

So, if you don’t already know, I am lovin’ Joy’s work right now and have been for at least 6 months. Whatever this guy touches is GOLD! I caught up with him at Trouble Vision (good rave!) and heard this on the night. One of my heroes of electronic music, Four Tet, who also recently collaborated with Burial (here), has now teamed up with Joy and let him loose on his new single: Love Cry. Have a listen and see what you think, in my opinion it is another exmple of why this young buck is gonna be flying the flag for the UK for a very long time. Long may it continue.

It’s here and it looks BIG! This is what you need to know…

GET SOME 002 FLIER

After the success of our launch party at the Gramaphone in October, GET SOME moves to The Book Club in Shoreditch for the follow up. For our Christmas spesh, headlining are some of the most exciting DJs in Lond…on – GREENA (www.myspace.com/ukgreena) and EXEL & ISHU. The Book Club (http://www.wearetbc.com) is a new venue in Shoreditch, offering art, film, food, drinking and dancing over two floors with excellent lighting and sound.

GREENA’s mixes represent so much of what is great about UK underground music past and present. Full of energy his sets incorporate Grime, 2-Step, Baltimore, Funky, Hip-Hop and Dubstep and always technically on point. Check the Fact magazine mix [http://www.sendspace.com/file/w280dx]

EXEL & ISHU are two artists from the Reggae Roast collective. WU-TANG MEETS DUBSTEP

WU-TANG - ENTER THE DUBSTEP

EASY…

It’s Monday morning, and YES, you read correctly, WU-TANG clan meets dubstep. There is a lot of hype about this album so I felt that I should write something about it. I’ve had a couple of listens to this and am still undecided. There are a couple of tracks that stand out, the Scuba mix of ‘Street Corners’ being one, but the majority feels like Dubstep circa 2005/2006 (this isn’t a bad thing of sorts, it’s just the sound has evolved so far beyond that now).

In my opinion it is still worth listening to. Regardless of taste, in the very least, it shows how the two genres (Hip-Hop and Dubstep) can cross over and well. There are other examples of this of course, Dabrye – Air (feat. MF DOOM) Kode 9 remix, and Starkey’s take on street bass definitely hints at some of the more left field/underground Hip-Hop that has been coming out of US in the last five or so years.

I think it is available on iTunes, so go check it out, here is the full tracklist:

1. Deep Space (Jay Da Flex & Yoof Remix)
2. New Year Banga (Rogue Star Remix)
3. Street Corners (Scuba Scythe Remix)
4. Love Don’t Cost (A Thing)/Still Grimey (Nebulla & Dore Remixes)
5. Knuckle Up (Matt U Remix)
6. Biochemical Equation (Datsik & Excision Remix)
7. Keep Hustlin (Trillbass Remix)
8. Now Or Never (Parson Remix)
9. Cinema (Chimpo Remix)
10. Coke (DZ Remix)
11. Iconoclasts (Syndaesia & AKS Remix)
12. Handle The Heights (Stenchman Remix)
13. Do It Big (Baobinga & I’d Remix)
14. Wu-Tang (DZ Remix)
15. Let’s Get It (Evol Intent Remix)
16. Lyrical Swords (Pawn Remix)
17. Think Differently (Hellfire Machina Remix)
18. Pencil/MyPiano/Firehouse (Soroka Remixes)
19. Alphabets (Dakimh Instrumental Remix)

10 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT SOUTH LONDON

2: CORSICA STUDIOS

MINDIE @ CORSICA STUDIOS

YO YO YO!

So, the first part of this piece was about a band form South London, now I am going to talk about a venue. This, in my opinion, is the most under rated and under used music venue in the whole of London. Apart from having two Funktion One sound systems installed (that’s right, two of the bloody things!) it is perfect in location, size and layout for a proper rave! It is under the train bridge at Elephant & Castle which is great for noise, no complaints of music being loud so you can jerk it all night. Size is around 300-400 people, maybe more, split into two rooms and connected by the smoking area out back under a railway arch, nice. If people didn’t get nose bleads every time they cam close to a bridge this place would be banging, maybe even one of coolest late night venues in town. Oh well… your loss, our gain!

This has seriously got me excited. I mhaven’t been to a proper Warehouse party in ages and this looks like a winner! It’s 5 minutes from my house, which is a good start, and it looks like it’s gonna be an all night Techno banger. They don’t give much away on the on the website, but if you sign up, the send you an invite and bang, you’re in! Exciting stuff south of the river. The next Franks me thinks… the saga continues.

CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THIS – PANGAEA – MEMORIES

Posted by Leigh

It’s the return of the vocal. There haven’t been many tracks in the vain of Gabrielle (Roy Davis Jr.) in the last ten years, and the ones that have surfaced have been average. This marks the return to the ‘vocal banger’. It feels like something straight out of the 1986 Detroit Techno/House scene, not a bad start. Couple that with the rolling bass style that I have grown to love from Pangaea and you’ve got yourself a dancefloor killa! Ladies and gents alike will be getting down to this one, the sure were at GET SOME.

Enjoy, PEACE
