This has been kicking around since 2007 but it slipped under my radar, so apologies if you have already seen this. Amron Experimental have developed a toothbrush which which can redirect water from a faucet to your lips for easy rinsing… WHAT THE HELL IS THAT, I hear you say? Well it’s kinda like this:
This is what I.D. magazine had to say it about it, damn thing won an award.
2007 I.D. Annual Design Review Winner – Best Category
“The jurors loved the way a common-looking toothbrush, gently tweaked, could shape tap water into a fluid parabola as perfect as the St. Louis Arch. They talked about the wonderfulness of harnessing the appeal of water play to transform a universally unloved chore, repeating comments about the power of design to create moments when ingenuity boosts utility to an emotional “A-ha!” Their solidarity was too strong to rouse any pithy debate, however. “Will it entice kids to brush their teeth?” (Tobias) Wong wondered. No matter, said Jeremijenko: “It rescripts a daily activity into something fantastical.”…(It) reminded the jurors of the deepest and most primitive powers of design: to create wonder where it’s least expected; to make something out of nearly nothing; to reduce people to two words. Wow. Cool.”
Don’t really get how this would be useful, but other people obviously do. What do you think?
I have been a massive fan of Shane Meadows for a long time and was really excited to hear that his new film was going to be featured in the Warp 20 box set (thanks cubalicious x), which I have on pre order soon to arrive. My favourite of Meadows’ films has to be Dead mans shoes. If you haven’t seen this then I recommend that you run out and buy yourself a copy as it is one of the best British films of this decades, in my opinion of course. Here is a clip of it:
I have read lots about Le Donk and have tried to tried to resist watching the trailer until now, but the temptation was too much. It is in the styleI have come to expect of Shane Meadows, very dark, beautifully shot, explicitally depicting the reality of British culture. It looks like a winner. So check it out and decide for yourself.
I have been asked to play at a free night in Shoreditch at the The Three Blind Mice next Thursday. The line up is pretty tasty and includes the mighty Darkstar and Actress, plus myself of course. If you fancy a pre–weekend skank then get yourself down there. See you on the dancefloor.
A friend I used to work with posted this on Twitter, and it is bloody amazing! It was at a festival and is projected on to the side of a huge stately home. Check it out.
I first heard this track on the Mary Anne Hobbs Radio One show awhile back and it has stuck with me ever since! She has been smashing this along with a lot of other Wonky in the last few months, but this is one of the standout tracks for me. I couldn’t find a full version on SoundCloud (although I have it), so you’ll have to make do with this mash up. Enjoy.
I have been on a little mission recently with my boy Jay, AKA Whiskey, and we have been working hard to create a club night, something new and not in the mold of any of the Genre restricted events that are happening in London or anywhere else right now. We have a got a venue and a line up, and the branding is under way too. Watch this space, more info coming in the next couple of weeks, until then… GET SOME!
The King of Modern Funk, this guy is too much. Dam-Funk (pronounced: ‘Dame’ as in Damon) has been pioneering a sound of what my mum was probably getting down to in the early 80′s, Boogie, Modern Soul and Electro-Funk and pushed the ‘Modern Funk’ sound in LA for the last few years. I love this shit. Have a listen by clicking on the image below.
I have had this track for a long time but haven’t really given it the appreciation it fully deserves. The EP has three versions, one featuring Dutty Goods, which is growing on me. Seriously, I can’t stop playing this track right now. I was coming home late last night, riding the 35 towards Camberwell and this track was killing it! BIG TUNE!
This guy started following me on Twitter and I have been checking out his stuff. He does a thing on YouTube called Bedroom Sessions. His music is from the Squarepusher/Four Tet school of Electronica, so not that groundbreaking but good. It is really interesting to watch someone create this type of sound in their bedroom and see what kind of kit they’re using (a Nintendo DS being used as an instrument?). Have a listen by clicking on the image below and check out his blog here: MEMOTONE.
I was chattin’ with my main boy WHISKEY and he reminded me of this tune, an ABSOLUTE BANGER, ‘HUDSON MOHAWKE – OOOPS!’. It is so big, I just had to share… click on the image below to have a listen.
If there was anyone I could work for right now, this second, it would be Manchester based design supremos DEIGN BY MUSIC. I found their website and fell in love. It is a great example of how simple web design can be just as affective as and to the point as any flash based site. A good idea is a good idea and a portfolio should be about the work, not about how crazt the coder went builiding the sire that displays it. So, have a look, I think you’ll like!
I found this and am not sure whether to like it or be freaked out by it… nah I definitely LOVE IT! Enough to wanna share it with you guys anyway. Check out the rest of Saiman Chow’s work here: http://www.saimanchow.com/
Field Day was a total disaster, poor organisation, rain and a fairly average line up. The one saving grace was FOUR TET. A few people I know said that he was slightly self indulgent, which I can understand if you are unfamiliar with his music, but I thought he was pretty decent. He went off a bit on a bit of a tangent veering towards his new Techno inspired sound, but that wasn’t a problem for me. I for one am excited to hear where his new sound is going after listening to years of evolution. Have a listen here to a track from his last EP, Ribbons, below. The Ringer EP is fairly old now and I cannot wait to hear his next release, whenever that is going to drop!?!?!?!?!?
Anyway, here is a video of the gig that I took and some pics I thought you might like to see of the show.
